Repair or Replace? Here's How We Decide
Not every tired deck needs to come down. At your free on-site assessment, Ben Watson walks the deck with you and checks the framing, footings, ledger and railings. Then you get a straight answer about which path makes sense. If a repair or resurface will do the job, we'll tell you.
Repair or resurface when:
- The joists, beams and posts are dry, straight and solid
- The problems are limited to surface boards, a few stairs or one section of railing
- The footings haven't moved
- You're happy with the deck's size and layout
Replace when:
- Rot has reached the joists, beams or posts
- The ledger where the deck meets the house is failing or was never flashed
- Footings have heaved, sunk or were set too shallow
- The deck bounces, sways or leans
- Railings or stairs don't meet current code
- You want a different size, shape or height
Upgrade While You Replace
A replacement is the easiest moment to change how your deck looks, works and ages. Everything comes off anyway, so you're not tearing out something new later.

Talk Through Your LayoutHow a Deck Replacement Works
On-site assessment
We inspect the framing, footings, ledger and railings, measure the space and ask how you actually use the yard.
Design and written estimate
You see material samples at your home and get an itemized written estimate, so you know exactly what's included before you commit.
Permits
We pull the building permit and schedule the inspections. You don't have to deal with the city.
Tear-out and haul-away
We remove the old deck and haul the debris away.
Footings and framing
Footings and framing are rebuilt or reinforced as needed, and the ledger connection to your house is done properly.
Build and final walkthrough
We build the new deck, clean up, and walk through it with you before we call it done.
Most standard decks are built in 3 to 7 days once work starts. Tear-out, multi-level designs and covered decks add time, and your estimate spells out the schedule.
